Growing up in San Diego, California, he attended the San Francisco Art Instititute from 1987-90 and then settled in San Diego. Then he set a goal for himself--to become an established painter within ten years, something he achieved. His study of art history led him to17th century Baroque artists who used strong contrasts of light and dark. He also studied Abstract Expressionism. In his still lifes and bird study, elements of both of these influences, realism and abstraction, are apparent, and he expresses sentimentality of the traditional still life as well as the more spare pleasures of abstraction. He focuses primarily on fruit, vegetables, branches and roots in spare arrangements. In fall, 1998, a special exhibition of his work was held ...
