In the center of a black a white photo sits a trolley painted in green graffiti, bringing color to an otherwise color-less scene. While the surrounding trolleys on the tracks also contain graffiti, only the central trolley is in color. Trolley Graveyard, by Michael Hower, represents the idea that the natural world is more powerful than humanity. As the trolley cars are reclaimed by the earth, the choice to depict just one trolley in color adds to the intensity of the image. The graffiti on the surrounding trolleys becomes a camouflage, while the central trolley seems to represent the last man standing.
