ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ernie is a well-known fine artist painter and art educator living and working in Los Angeles, who draws his primary inspiration from his frequent travels in Europe, Asia, and the US, favoring however Southern California and Italy. After two decades working as an architect and illustrator, Ernie embraced his love for the visual arts and committed to following the passion he always had in his heart. He has spent the past 20 years enhancing his natural artistic talent by sharpening his technical skills using a variety of media that range from pencil or pen-and-ink sketches to impressionistic watercolors or more traditional oil paintings. He is a brilliant observer of the environments that surround him, and you can find him painting in plein air for smaller pieces or in his home studio for larger formats. Ernie’s work has been exhibited in group or solo shows, has been the recipient of prestigious awards, and is being collected by loyal clients. ARTIST STATEMENT
Exploring new places continues to be a most exciting experience in my life as an artist. The Island of Sicily with its natural breathtaking landscapes, stunning beaches and dramatic coastlines combined with 3,000 years of history that blend Greek, Arab and Norman influences provided me with an overwhelming and endless source of inspiration. How could one resist the invitation to capture the crystal-clear transparency of the sea with its infinite hues of blues or the harsh, sun drenched, and blinding light of the archaeological parks where majestic Greek temples still stand as glorious testament to an ancient past? Whether wandering in the noisy markets of Palermo with displays of fish and fruits, admiring the opulence of the gold mosaics of the Monreale and Cefalu’ cathedrals, or the brilliant colors of pottery displays in the local shops, I can only say that the island is magnificent. Every view is a postcard. I am pleased and honored to present my Postcards from Sicily watercolors with all of you.
