In Attachment, Suzanne Gainer draws upon the natural world to explore the relationship between the body, memory, and the desire for connection. Through photography, she brings organic forms into conversation with the human figure, creating an image that moves between physical experience and psychological metaphor. The title suggests multiple meanings, from emotional bonds and their lasting influence to the physical act of joining or fastening one thing to another. Natural elements become extensions of the body, suggesting both vulnerability and the possibility of transformation. As in much of her work, Gainer uses her own body not simply as a personal subject but as a stand-in for shared human experience. Attachment occupies the space between the familiar and the imagined, inviting viewers to consider how our histories shape our relationships with ourselves and the world around us.
