This painting is oil. Oil paint has such a distinctive feel. I am sure that 's why it hasn't died out. It is so sensual and feels so luxurious as you pull your brush across the canvas. The paint pulls back at the hand, just a little, almost as if it were challenging you, questioning you, playing with you. I switch back and forth between acrylic and oil because sometimes I just have to breathe. Acrylic is light and open and fast. It is straightforward and direct. Pass/fail.Oil is temperamental, slow, moody. You have to coax it, to seduce it almost. It seeps into your soul and takes you over. I have a romance with acrylic. I have an obsession with oil.
This year in particular has made me think about how perceptions can vary. Different people may consider a concept, a work of art or a belief system completely differently. I am continuously surprised when I find myself holding an opinion that is diametrically opposed to that of a friend. I am learning how precious it is to be able to hold equanimity and nuance and to appreciate other points of view. One person may need intense color in their daily environment while another may prefer pale neutrality. One person may crave both. Or neither. It's ok.
This painting can be hung horizontally or vertically. Either is ok.
