There are places most people pass by. Wild corners. Overgrown edges. Tangled undergrowth where trees lean and light slips through in fragments instead of perfection. This painting was inspired by those secret spaces, in Turks & Caicos, in Blacksburg, in Annapolis, where the land hasn’t been arranged for beauty, yet holds it fiercely. In the late afternoon, when the sun begins to tilt, something changes. The light stretches long and dramatic across the ground. The reds deepen. The shadows grow confident. The wildness softens. Afternoon slows. What might first appear chaotic becomes layered. Alive. Intentional in its own way. The beauty here isn’t manicured. It isn’t symmetrical. It doesn’t ask to be admired. It simply exists. This painting is about recognizing the quiet splendor in places that feel overlooked, the secret corners where nature grows as it wishes, and light finds a way through anyway. Sometimes the most extraordinary beauty lives in the uncurated spaces.
