This rock formation made me think of a whale's tail -- a shape that was also echoed in the small puddles of water nearby. I enhanced the colours in the rocks to emphasize the idea that the rock remembers - a geological concept that rocks carry evidence of the history of weather. My fantastical notion is that the rock remembers more - children playing, kayakers paddling by, birds perching.
The main shapes feature significant texture, achieved by layering acrylic skins over top of the underpainting. Stencilled shapes were applied on top of that to give richness and visual interest.
The overall colour choices suggest both the calm of a quiet lake, and the liveliness of any outdoor experience.
