These Mythic Animal paintings are primitive and brightly colored. The series contains humor, compassion and strength. They are child-like in process, formed with little judgment of self or end result. The origins of the paintings began in 1996. While healing from cancer and cancer treatment , I happened to view two original Australian Aboriginal drawings. That day the series began with “Creature in a Patterned Sea, followed by “Reptile in a Patterned Sea.” True to my prolific style I created nearly 100 images that fall into six categories of Turtles, Snake, Fish, Reptile, Dragonfly and Bird. Turtles are the largest category in many sizes and colors. Mythic Animals are created primarily with Tombow pens. Like all my artwork the images represent a connection to a deep interior self. In the Mythic Animals the self is ancient with knowledge of primordial symbols, painting in an ageless manner. The paintings are a vehicle for our human animal selves. The Mythic Animals Series is available in reproduction prints, cards and ceramic pieces.
