On my travels in Queensland, I’m drawn to a view that, at first glance, appears empty and remote: a vast expanse of rocky, ochre-coloured earth stretching out towards low-lying hills, interspersed only with spinefix and wiry shrubs. I examine my thoughts and feelings about this apparently barren landscape to understand what attracts me to it. This reflection, combined with imagining what lives here unseen and the recent memory of a nearby inland lake, led me to create a reimagined landscape of untamed energy and mystery. The possibility of what lies beyond first impressions and the obvious view of a landscape is where the magic lies. It’s an invitation for viewers to see and experience a new, highly personal experience and interpretation of this landscape.
