About the artist

Kenneth Gordon

Born in 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kenneth Gordon began painting at an early age. Gordon later studied at the Winnipeg School of Art. Following his art training, Gordon was employed as a Commercial Artist for a number of years before teaching at a Winnipeg High School. he was employed as a commercial artist before working as an art instructor at R.B. Russell Vocational High School for 17 years. Gordon retired early to pursue his painting full-time, residing and working in the town of Winnipeg Beach. Following in the footsteps of the Group of Seven, Gordon was inspired by the Canadian landscape and created small oil sketches from his many hiking and canoe trips through Canada’s wilderness country. Gordon is well-known for his smaller Oil on board paintings that abound from his many sketching trips across the country. Timeless portrayals of water, trees and rock, which in turn become the basis of his larger studio canvases. Kenneth Gordon painted regularly with Friend and Group of Seven Artist A.J. Casson. Many of his works share influence and resemblances to Casson’s works however are solely his own style. Kenneth Gordon also founded the Medea Art Gallery in Winnipeg, MB.
