Cheryl's work is in many private collections coast to coast in Canada and the United States.
The Province of Manitoba has recently acquired three pieces.
Cheryl Tordon’s Artistic Process:
“All of my pieces enter my mind fully formed, intentions set, and bring their own names and stories.
I start construction with a wire or metal, wood and cardboard armature suggesting overall size and pose.
This is covered with one to four layers of gypsona cloth. A layer at a time with drying to follow. It is a slow meditative process that does not benefit from rushing prior to the work having reached the bone dry stage.
I follow this with thin layers of a fibre and plaster mix incorporating linseed oil to ensure a hard durable finish. It is at this stage that bodies are filled out and expressions are set. Some of the pieces ask questions, others make statements.
When all details are complete the final coats are usually bright acrylic paint and again built up in thin layers followed (often) by a glaze coat.
By the time a piece is finished it has told me at least a dozen stories.”
