The Weekend

Acrylic, mixed media on canvas

When I was working in Toronto my life as a single mother was very hectic. I was passionate about my work and determined to make my mark and change the world.

My days started at 4:30 am. I prepared a breakfast pick-nick, then got the kids ready to go to the YMCA. We swam for an hour or two then ate breakfast together at a table. Then they were off to school and I was off to rid the world of racism and all forms of discrimination.

My weekends were made of tasks that needed to be checked off in order for the week to work. I had no real life and ended up living from check mark to check mark.

In the painting from a far the check mark seems perfect but upon a closer look it is coming apart.
