Self-Portrait: What Everyone Wants, 1974

Signature: signed, titled and dated on lower right

This print is an etching. The plate was zinc and there were two pieces printed at one time on a single sheet of paper. It was printed in a blue-black ink. The two pieces of plate leave no break lines because they were cut like jigsaw pieces. Printing on one sheet also helps hide the break line. An explanation of what it means to me seems self-explanatory since the title is self-portrait. It is a self-portrait as I see myself in the world and represents the environment in which I would rather exist. The second part of the title ‘what everyone wants’ would simply mean that I think everyone would like to live in my environment. It definitely entertains ideas of revolution, decadence, new form and politics.”
