Magic Carpet: Locked–in-Color is one of a series of “Magic Carpets” which were done as a reaction to the belief that we are now trying to save the environment. Magic Carpet: Locked – in – Color was influenced in special ways by some imagery in my earlier landform works. I use flowing horizontal water forms bounded by overlay transparencies of shapes. Color, pattern, texture, and rhythm are all important elements that still show the influence of Will Henry Stevens, my teacher at Newcomb College for four years, and seeing more original work by Kandinsky has had further influence. A oneness with nature of the Taoist philosophy, absence of order and form in nature, but interpreted into a make-believe world, continue to develop in this work.
