My work tends to be abstracted from nature. It deals with the general rather than the particular. Work is prompted by the beauty in a universe created by God. Every weed or rock is worthy of artistic consideration. I try not only to examine the nature of things but to give them some uplifting meaning. Barren Briar was painted during 1968 and is one of the first works in a series of Briar works. IT is dealing with the growth process in nature. I have tried to set up an image which controls the canvas by use of the primary shape and with value contrast (light to dark). Great emphasis is placed on the following, though not necessarily in this order: balance, rhythmic repetition, contrast, harmony, unity, variety, shape relationship, texture, color, value control, order and unity. This particular work has a distinct flavor.
