About the artist

Evelyn Politzer

Evelyn Politzer, originally from Uruguay, now lives and works in Miami, Florida. After attending Law School in Montevideo, Uruguay, and moving to the United States, she pursued her passion for art. Evelyn is a 2020 recipient of the Ellies Creator Award from Oolite Arts Organization and an MFA in Visual Arts graduate from Miami International University of Art and Design. During the 2020 pandemic, Evelyn felt compelled to create a platform for others to share their textile art journey and co-founded FAMA-Fiber Artists-Miami Association- with the mission to educate and advance contemporary fiber arts.
Working with wool was only natural in her native country, where the number of sheep far exceeds the number of inhabitants. Evelyn Politzer is looking to convey nature’s plea for interconnectedness through yarn, thread, and fabric. Using traditional methods like knitting, crochet, and embroidery, Evelyn creates unconventional objects, from small 2D tapestries to monumental sculptural forms. She mainly works with hand-dyed, soft natural fibers because of their unique tactile quality that allows her to enjoy the passing of time through her sense of touch.
