Petal Mix is a compact celebration of color and texture packed into a 12 by 12-inch canvas. I wanted to capture a bouquet that feels alive—not just a static arrangement, but something vibrant and slightly unruly. The flowers lean into bold patches of pink, white, and yellow, layered with brushstrokes that you can really see and feel. There’s a spontaneity in the way the paint moves across the surface, especially where colors blur and drip just a little, which adds a flow that keeps the composition feeling fresh and natural.
The glass vase is transparent enough to reveal the tangled green stems inside, grounding the lively blooms while letting light shine through. The soft purple background is a deliberate choice to gently push the warm flower tones forward, creating a balance that’s both calming and full of energy at once. I enjoyed working with oil paint’s rich texture here, embracing its unpredictability to let parts of the piece evolve on their own rather than over-controlling every detail.
