Dancing in the Sunset is a compact exploration of movement and color where the forest comes alive in unexpected ways. The piece is small—just 6 by 6 inches—but it packs a lot into that space. Thick, textured brushstrokes suggest tall trees standing upright, painted in varying shades of brown, blue, and purple to highlight their sturdy trunks. The ground feels alive too, shifting from green at the bottom to warm yellows and oranges above, capturing the glow of an autumn sunset.
What makes this piece playful is the way the trees seem to join hands with slender, human-like figures painted right into their trunks. These dark brown lines weave upwards and twist just enough to suggest dancing shapes moving through the forest. I wanted the background trees themselves to feel like happy figures caught in a joyful moment, blending nature and spirit without drawing clear lines between the two. The layered textures and colors build a sense of depth but also invite the viewer to get lost in the rhythm of this mystical, sunlit woodland. The process was all about embracing spontaneity—letting brushstrokes become limbs, and shadows turn into dancers—so the forest could literally come alive on its own terms.
