For many, many centuries red was THE color, in fact, in some languages it was the word for color, and then it fell from grace and was considered indecent and decadent, the color of luxury and excess. It’s passionate, it’s edgy, it’s dangerous, symbolic of so much – love and romance, anger and aggression, power and courage, good fortune and happiness. Beloved in fashion and design for its glamor and ability to elevate the ordinary. A touch, a shade or a jolt of red can instantly energize an artwork. Red has commanded the attention of artists and their audiences throughout history.
This winter the Rockville Art League is proud to present this themed show of this dynamic color at Glenview Mansion Art Gallery. We are honored to have Erin Raedeke judge the work in the show.
It is on exhibit along with the Rockville Student Juried Art Show 2026 which is displayed in rooms 5 and 6 of the gallery. These two shows are sponsored by the City of Rockville.
The opening will be on Sunday, Feb. 22, 1:30-3:30pm. Awards will begin at 2:00pm.
The pick up of artwork will be on Monday, March 23, 9:30am- noon, 12:00pm.
The gallery is on the 2nd floor of Glenview Mansion located at the Rockville Civic Center, 603 Edmonston Dr. There is an elevator to all levels of the gallery. Plenty of parking too.

Judge Erin Raedeke's Remarks:
It has been an honor to judge the Rockville Art League’s Seeing Red exhibition. Red is such an inherently complex color that can be interpreted and explored in a multitude of ways. It was exciting to see each artist’s take on this powerful color - some taming its strength, others celebrating its boldness and authority. I was fortunate enough to spend time with each of the works before the show was hung. It is an impressive show, and even more so in person.
