Hooks & Ladders 2023: Mixed-media, acrylic on 24" W X 48" L X 1.5" D hardboard, Wood Sculptures, 3-Dimensional Features. The three cubes, black squares, and partial cages (1/4 square dowel construction) are wood, and all 3.5" X 3.5" X 3.5". The hardboard is a stark white background. Basket spline material ties sculptures through the cages, cubes, and over the black squares. The cube and cages squares are aligned but appear misaligned due to the contrasting pull of the fluid twisting of the strong-color-contrast basket spline. The dynamic interplay between the angled structures and the flowing line emphasizes shadow-casting. Dynamism is the shadow-casting response to light source positioning. The piece has high shadow/object reflection juxtaposition (above or below, left or right). The message emerges from my many years of psychotherapy practice. Life is a journey, never straight or aligned, perceived as misaligned due to the pressures of fate, luck, and destiny (basket twine).
