"Connecting Steps (Triptych)" by Rita Adams is a poignant exploration of desolation and the remnants of dramatic encounters. The triptych unfolds across three panels, each meticulously painted to convey a narrative of loss and abandonment.
Jacob has departed from his turbulent night, leaving behind a landscape strewn with broken ladders. Their fragmented forms suggest the dissolution of the devotion bridges that link heaven and earth. The steps of these ladders appear to be melting, a visual metaphor for the dissolving faith heightening the sense of sacrifice and defeat.
The angels who once descended and ascended these ladders are conspicuously absent. Their departure leaves a void, emphasizing the loneliness and desolation of the landscape.
