My inspiration and motivation can come from many sources but often it suddenly sparks and then soon evolves from within. The materials themselves can be inspiring as well. I like working with metallic acrylics as well as decorative paints. In this piece, as often so, I drew upon my collective ideas stored in my consciousness, some from impressive work of other artists, not their actual work, but the general feeling of their art, plus my mood and spirit at that time.
But most often I just need to get started and let the surface and the pigments, materials drive the creative steps. As shapes form and paint reacts to the surface, and my tools and brushes are chosen, each step is a reaction to the prior steps, with a continuous effort to keep the overall composition and impact in harmony and pleasing!
In this painting the delicate, low level textures contrasted nicely to the smooth channels of deep violet and the white flowing, multi-directional white lines on overlaying the painting was really the finishing touch.
