Frog Star V is a small print which was made especially for the limited edition series of the book of Richard Hassell's art: Strange Creatures Complex Tessellations. It is included in the Series I edition of the book, and features hand applied gold leaf, making each piece unique. The edition is hand signed and numbered, matching the book numbering. There are 55 pieces in total.

Like the large print Frog Star II, this print is based on Sir Roger Penrose's famous Penrose Tiling, the "Kite and Dart" version. This tiling is aperiodic. It is based on 5-fold geometry, hence the 5 pointed star shape of the design. The dimensions of the design are all related by the Golden Ratio, a ratio that is present in many aspects of nature.
