Jurors Carlos Hernandez, Shanna Strauss, and Chadwick Tolley selected work from over 700 entries to craft a vibrant and wide-ranging exhibition that explores the act of layering. While there are some traditional prints in the exhibition that use collaging to craft their imagery, the work has a lot of material exploration, including fabric, currency, thread, plant matter, stamps, lotto tickets, gum wrappers, and dictionary pages. These media are expertly collaged through methods such as printing, sewing, gluing, and screwing. Superimposed exemplifies how practices can converge and be enhanced by the art of collage.
About the artist
Cassie Normandy White
Cassie Normandy White is an artist and educator located in Corpus Christi, TX.
Steeping in research of ecology, non-human intelligence, and wisdom traditions, my work expresses curiosity and appreciation for the vibrant animacy of our natural world. I use collage to create imagined visual narratives of interconnection - glimpses of how vegetal, mineral, animal and cosmic elements are in continual conversations with one another.
