Angel-Skate is a charming broadside created using pulp painting, which depicts a sea skate image and sun above the handset type of the poem itself. Notley was invited to Pyramid as part of a series with Beat Generation poets, including Douglas Messerli and Anselm Hollo. For this series, each poet created chap books and broadsides in Pyramid’s Riverdale studio on a clamshell press. Notley was delighted to be asked to draw her pulp image onto the custom grey paper of this one sheet broadside.
