About the artist

Images in Brick

Sculpting in brick is over 3000 years old. First practiced in the walled cities of ancient Mesopotamia, the process of creating a brick mural or brick sculpture begins with the carving of intricate designs into stacked blocks of wet clay. After the clay is fired, the finished brick is carefully reassembled into its original order, special care being taken to delicately blend the thin mortar lines into the finished relief.

Jay Tschetter laid the foundation for Images in Brick in 1987, when he first saw a photo of a brick sculpture in an Endicott Brick brochure, and started imagining the wide world of possibilities inherent in the medium of brick. As a journeyman mason with many years experience in the field, and an accomplished part-time artist in Nebraska, he realized this was the perfect marriage of the two separate disciplines. 40 plus years later, Images in Brick has extensive experience working with committee groups, cities, universities, churches, government, schools, corporations, businesses and individuals from design, to sculpting, to installation.
