Two ancient relics hang suspended in the air, casting flickering shadows below. Rendered entirely in gold and white, both echo the form of raindrops halted mid-fall. One is hard-edged and geometric, marked with an ancient sigil resembling an eye; the other flows in soft, liquid curves, its surface etched with golden rivulets that seem to run eternally, like mercury caught in motion. Together they exist in perpetual stasis, spanning centuries and civilizations, their original meaning — if they ever had one — lost to the passage of time.

Part of the ongoing Relics series, this piece imagines these artifacts of long-lost civilizations as ancient machines or sentient objects, their purpose unresolved — or perhaps as sacred objects linking us to the past. The series as a whole explores history and its connection to ourselves, religion and belief, the ambiguous nature of nostalgia, and humanity's continual search for meaning and connection.

Rendered entirely through the painstaking technique of hand-cut and layered papercutting, Droplet Stasis balances precision and fluidity in a restrained gold-and-white palette — every sigil, rivulet, and rippling shadow cut by hand from paper alone, inviting close, sustained viewing.
