Artist Biography:

Kennedi Kickbusch is a self-taught acrylic painter and graphite artist living in Midland, Michigan. Her work has been featured in several local juried exhibitions, allowing her to share her perspective and connect with viewers through art. She is currently studying at Saginaw Valley State University to become an elementary art educator. Inspired by creation, her passions, and everyday moments, Kennedi translates life's raw emotions into compositions, often expressed on canvas. The way a paintbrush makes her feel when it is held in her hands reflects the colorful nature of her mind, where everything she sees develops like a picture through her creative process. With her heart on her sleeve for the world to experience life alongside her through her work, every drop of paint or stroke of graphite collects pieces of a canvas that reveal nothing but who she is—a real, true artist.

Personal Artist Statement: 

My name is Kennedi Kickbusch, and I am an artist here in Midland, Michigan. I have always created art from an early age, but it was not until the past few years that my art started to grow. I am thankful to the artist community here in Midland and the people surrounding me who have supported me through the beginning of my artistic journey. My work often explores my own life as a person and as an artist. Through my art, many pieces suggest a difficult or frustrating moment in my life, while others are highly joyous and have an uplifting feeling. Art has always been my way of working through emotions that I do not have words for. Whatever I am working on in that moment becomes the conclusion to what or why I have been feeling or experiencing certain emotions.  

Alongside my own growing process as an artist, I have completed a variety of commissions. I stick to acrylic paintings or graphite drawings, but I create mixed media occasionally. I have always felt compelled to create art, both for myself and for others. I believe that every person has a creative side, which is why I am currently focusing on attending university to become an art educator. Art is an immensely powerful thing, and everyone deserves to have a chance to explore it.  

I stick to the fact that creativity guides our souls; deep down, it is who we all are or once were. The younger versions of ourselves try to tell us something when the creative juices flow. I hope to create a different viewpoint for people, through my personal art, or my future job, guiding children through their own creative processes.
