After graduation form the Pratt Institute in 1929, he supported himself by working as a commercial artist for magazines that reflected his interests in landscape and interior design, architectural renovation and travel illustration. After several successful years in publishing , he began to do free-lance commercial work and set aside more time for his own painting and sculpting.
Following World War II, Marinsky began to respond artistically to the unsettling and rapidly occurring world events of the time, and became active in the progressive movement. In 1946 he moved to Connecticut, where he continued as a successful free-lance commercial artist and produced representational sculptures, some of which are regarded as strong political segments. During this period of Marinsky’s popular and critical acclaim, abstract and non-objective art began to dominate galleries and museums, and the demand for representational work started to wane. While remaining active in the support of Rowayton Art Center, which he had helped to found and direct, and pursuing his personal artistic interests, Marinsky traveled by car around Europe in 1961-1962 and later in 1968, immersing himself in the cultures of sixteen countries and painting nearly one hundred studies in water color, most of which are now owned by private collectors.
In 1968, he discovered the Tommasi Foundry in Pietrasanta, Italy, which has subsequently become synonymous with his work. In 1972, Marinsky bought a Tuscan farmhouse in Capriglia, just above Pietrasanta on the side of a mountain overlooking the Mediterranean, where he lived and worked until 2008.
