Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892) was the last great master of Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints and one of the most influential artists of the Meiji era. Renowned for his dramatic depictions of warriors, historical legends, ghosts, and scenes from Japanese folklore, Yoshitoshi combined traditional ukiyo-e techniques with a modern sense of realism and psychological depth. His masterpiece series, One Hundred Aspects of the Moon, is widely regarded as one of the crowning achievements of Japanese printmaking. Today, Yoshitoshi's works are celebrated for their powerful storytelling, technical brilliance, and role in preserving the ukiyo-e tradition during a period of rapid change in Japan.
