artist statement: A life-sized bronze statue of an aged veteran kneels atop a shimmering waters’ surface, fishing pole in hand. Thoughtfully gazing down, he reaches for his silver, ethereal reflection beneath the surface. The reflection is actually a mirror-image of the upper figure, sculpted very loosely and cast in silver stainless steel. The entire artwork rests upon this bottom figure, specifically sized to place the “water rings” at low chest-level; the perfect viewing height. The “water rings” are fabricated from stainless steel plate and finished to a high luster/polish.
While honoring America’s veterans, “Reflections of Service” also explores the healing that comes with time, the importance of memories as we age, how we view the past through the veil of time and the search for peace and contentment. It does so in a completely unique way, visually utilizing the image of a reflection in three-dimensions which only actually exists in two dimensions.
About Blumberg:
Blumberg was born on January 30th, 1965 in Los Angeles. After Blumberg completed his education at the University of Southern California's Idyllwild school of the art's and science followed by an apprenticeship to master his bronze working skills he became a professional horse trainer for 18 years. He then built a studio in Kentucky where he began his bronze work again. He has since completed over 200 public and private pieces.
