Flint Hills Stream is a hand colored etching that is 18 x 14 inches located in Chadron State College in Memorial Hall on the first floor theater gallery. The etching depicts a river with rocks and trees on either side.

Nichols achieved a B. S. degree from Emporia State University, his M. F. A. degree from Wichita State University, and had 32 hours toward his doctorate in art education. Nichols worked at Fort Hays State University where he taught printmaking from 1982 until he retired in 1999.
