Don Fels is an artist, writer and story-teller. A long time Seattlelite, Don spends part of his year in Puglia, Italy; the home of the renowned Calce Viva Plasterworks. Using this traditional material, Don has reimagined the ancient Italian fresco technique of producing paintings with plaster and integrated pigment. Layering the pigmented plaster on poplar panels, also a traditional material, unsed in Renaissance altarpieces, he creates a sublime surface with smaller pieces that are constructed and joined in a gorgeous grid. The completed works convey a strong sense of tradition, while feeling contemporary.
