Painted during McClung's studies at the Art Students League of New York, this dynamic abstract work reflects the influence of the American Abstract Expressionist movement that dominated the New York art scene in the late 1950s. The composition is built from bold, overlapping planes of teal, chartreuse, and deep navy, punctuated by sharp accents of red and lavender that create a sense of visual tension and rhythm across the canvas. McClung employs a varied range of mark-making — from broad, atmospheric washes to gestural, heavily loaded strokes — demonstrating the experimental freedom that characterized the era. The work stands as a testament to the artist's engagement with the avant-garde currents of mid-century American painting during a formative period in her artistic development.
