In this last painting of 2020, American abstract painter, Michael Rich strikes a hopeful note. This Beautiful World, a vertical abstraction has at its center an open and luminous space surrounded by an exuberant framing of red and green brushstrokes. Influenced by the painter, Joan Mitchell, Michael is also inspired by the landscape as a source for dramatic abstraction. This stunning painting is unframed and ready to hang. This Beautiful World was painted in 2020 during the height of the global pandemic. Michael Rich views his work as wayfinders to a more hopeful and beautiful world. Even in the most unsettling of times, the artist's response is one of beauty. This is a particularly good example of the gestural, abstract style that Michael Rich has cultivated as a response to the elements of landscape and the natural world. Rich is often inspired by the British painter, JMW Turner who portrayed the sea and sky with expressive force.
