A rustic ramshackle barn stands as a monument to younger years when farm animals roamed its stalls in search of hay and shelter. Now a golden autumn tree shelters the barn and adds depth of shadow and light to the old architecture.
It called to me as I was driving home across the state. It played hard to get as it was encompassed by barbed wire, no trespassing signs, a steep drainage ditch, and piles of anthills. This was the only angle obtainable, but its creative departures from the standard, such as rounded entrance spoke of someone's one time care. The autumn colors only served to frame in protective cover.
