Digital polaroid color I-type film print 4.25" x 3.5"

Digital polaroid color I type print from AI generated image, created using a photograph of the acrylic painting Unseen Custodian (36 x 36 in, inv. AMPC2022003) as image input with text prompt, printed directly onto instant film.

Lily’s Throne / Emergence Chamber begins with the abstract painting Unseen Custodian from the Archetypes on Quiet Ground series, a chalky blue and soft pink field punctuated by dark orbs and wing like marks that suggest a watcher more than a body. A photograph of that canvas is fed into an early generative app together with a short verbal spell, which misreads the painting and produces the seated figure: skin cooled to grey, folded inside a pale peach structure that hovers between petals and industrial shell. The raw file is harsher, with more visible distortions in the face, but the moment it is printed on Polaroid I type film the chemistry smooths those glitches into a strange cosmetic calm.

In this instant print the figure feels serenely installed rather than completely stable, almost a prototype deity waiting for permission to exist. “Lily’s Throne” points to the floral illusion of purity and poise, while “Emergence Chamber” names the enclosure as a device for transformation and controlled exposure. The work tracks a full loop of translation: analog painting to AI hallucination to small vulnerable artifact. It sits inside the Deities and Oddities. cycle as one of its clearest icons of mythohuman grace, where beauty, malfunction and quiet authority occupy the same compact surface.
