The Cathedral is a mountain with a distinctive wall, where people base jump in the atlas deep behind Beni Mellal near Imin Ouar.
That area was back then very difficult to access with only dirt roads.
It was magical for it.
I recall the first time I went to spend a night there in the winter 2015. On my way back I stopped near a bridge to answer a call, there was no reception in the deep valley. A guy knocked at my car window and asked me if I was the one who spent the night at the cathedral guesthouse.I said yes ! he said he is the owner, and it was his wife who hosted me. He was amazed that i drove alone in those remote areas and that I was the first who didn't call him to get directions.
Ironically this happened also in NZ when I am told that the directions given to me were made in purpose vague to see if I could make it to the remote Marae on that special day I was invited at.
My years on the road resisting smart phones for as long as I could ( to have my little nokia stolen in Crystal palace park during a training session...anyone remember those little flat nokias with polyphonic ringtones? ) honed navigation skills and problem solving.
I used to look at a map and head on my bike in London and usually kept the overall direction with the sun.
Tech is great but we shouldn’t forget our own inbuilt tech, from intuition to navigation to built in alarm clock !
As cliche as it sounds, Use it or Loose it is true!
This is a reminder to claim those skills again as I have also had my moments where I rely way too much on tech lately.
