Bixa orellana, also known as achiote. The tree is best known as the source of annatto, a natural orange-red condiment (also called achiote or bijol) obtained from the waxy arils that cover its seeds.. The botanical genus name derives from the aboriginal Taíno word "bixa" ------------ Bixa orellana, también conocida como achiote. El árbol es mejor conocido como la fuente de achiote, un condimento natural de color rojo anaranjado (también llamado achiote o bijol) obtenido de los arilos cerosos que cubren sus semillas. El nombre botánico del género deriva de la palabra aborigen taína "bixa".
