The origins of the etching have been lost. The moments when I am most in flow are the least recorded and when the final piece is presented to the world I am ready to move on.
But on looking at the original print I know that it is rooted in the complexity of nature as well as investigating a process. It seems that is how I work.
The technique was exploring the use of PnP* film as a mechanism for creating photographic etchings. There were happy accidents and endless test prints kept in a drawer.
The text is an extract from Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species", how the cycle of extinction is through Natural Selection, a natural process. An idea that doesn't sit well with me when we (humans) are responsible for so much loss. A notion that began years of investigation and sits behind so much of my ongoing work.
