Imported forest nymph in Yorktown

photograph, mixed media,graphite, oil paint

22 x 28 x 1 in

This nymph is a strong guardian of a complex forest environment she fills with energy and power. This forest nymph was taken from distant lands and brought to Yorktown, paralleling the many slaves imported and still enslaved when the colonies were liberated from Britain, with only a few who directly fought with the colonists freed during the American revolution.
This nymph's environment is based on my photograph on tissue, layered over the shiny trash of candy wrappers. The nymph is painted to fit into her dreamlike environment created by the surrealness of the enhanced color double exposure.
