This handsome fellow was a commission for a friend as a surprise birthday gift to her husband. I confess that I have a soft spot for labs (especially the seniors). I have had Labradors for most of my life, and my family even bred them with I was little. I never had a chocolate lab - and it would have been helpful if I did because Wilson's fur sure tested my knowledge of colour. If I used a straight brown from the tube, it looked either too "green" or too "orange" and rather bland. I finally used a mix of purple, Quinacridone gold, and Yellow Ochre to get just the right blend (I did a little swatch to show you the mix). Wilson's "big reveal" was tonight and I am happy to say he was a big success!
