Planetary Values – 0 Euro Bill / (Cohesion) is a unique approach to global politics. It focuses on the euro bill, one of the main currencies in the world economy. This project highlights the contradiction in the stability of the European Union’s constitution by using laser cutting to create perforations in the bills, which are then illuminated by LED lights. The series aims to point out the legitimacy and symbolic significance of the state. It does so by connecting the symbolism of currency with democracy and the economy, as well as with the values and commitments made by governments around the world after World War II. The word “Cohesion” can only be seen when illuminated, emphasizing its fragile nature. This initiative turns the bill into a seemingly useless object and invites us to consider its global significance. The work questions the ideals of peace, well-being, and democracy that nations claim to uphold for their citizens, suggesting that these ideals may not be fully realized when constrained by economic and social changes.
