In Ancient Rings 105, the center is not simply the beginning of the pattern. It becomes the foundation of the vessel itself.
Concentric geometry moves outward from a four-inch circle that will ultimately become the vessel’s bottom. As the flat field is formed into three dimensions, that center assumes a different significance: everything rises from it, and everything depends upon it.
The work is built through measurement, repetition, and precision, yet its final resolution is intuitive. The center evolves in conversation with the surrounding rings until there is a moment when it simply belongs.
The geometry may establish the structure, but it does not determine the life of the piece.
The body is mathematical. The soul is not.
