Maple Blossoms began as an act of close attention to a moment that is easy to miss. In northern Wisconsin, maple trees flower briefly in early spring, often before leaves fully emerge. Their blossoms are small and subtle — not showy like summer flowers — yet they mark one of the first signs that the landscape is waking again after winter.

I was drawn to their quietness. After months of muted color and stillness, these delicate forms felt like a whispered promise rather than a declaration. While working on the piece, I focused on observation and repetition, allowing small marks and layered lines to mirror the way blossoms gather in clusters, each one modest on its own but powerful together.

The process became meditative. I found myself thinking about how renewal rarely arrives dramatically; more often it appears gradually, through small changes we notice only if we slow down enough to look closely. The clouds of reddish-pink blossoms and soft tones reflect that fragile transition — the moment when dormancy shifts toward growth.

Maple trees are also deeply tied to cycles of nourishment and continuity in this region. Their blossoms appear after maple syruping season winds down, and eventually give way to seeds, shade, and sweetness, reminding me that beginnings often carry future abundance within them, even when they seem almost invisible.

For me, 'Maple Blossoms' is about tenderness and patience — an invitation to notice the early signs of change and to trust that quiet beginnings can hold immense potential. It honors the subtle beauty present at the start of every new season, both in nature and in our own lives.
