Inspired by the spirit of New Orleans and Patti LaBelle's iconic anthem, Creole Lady Marmalade celebrates adornment, joy, and cultural hybridity. Built slowly through layers of hand-laid wool, silk, bamboo, viscose, and shimmering fibers, the work evolved over many hours of wet felting, Nuno felting, and needle felting before being embellished bead by bead. The labor-intensive process mirrors the accumulated textures and rhythms that shape identity and place. Rich color, ornament, and tactile surfaces invite sustained looking, rewarding viewers with details that reveal themselves gradually.
