Enlightened Horizons:
As a painter, there is a relationship that forms between the artist, the viewer, and the canvas. I have always been inspired by Mark Rothko who believes that paint evokes a different reaction when seen through the eyes of each individual. The perception of viewer is based on their own personal correlation to the colors on the canvas. I believe that the journey through college is time when these varying reactions begin to diverge and visualize out own unique horizons.
For this reason, I have named this series Enlightened Horizons to represent the new experiences that are to come as one embarks on this journey. I created these paintings to inspire those who enter Bridgewater State University. Whether students, staff, distinguished guests, or visitors, the series is a reminder that there is something beautiful to be discovered ahead. These “landscapesque” painting are meant to feel earthy: from a world of nature and elements of familiarity. They resemble the known but serve as an invitation into the unknown. The perception of the individual cannot be duplicated in the mind of another viewer, in the same way that each individuals’ experiences through life are unique from those of others. These paintings represent the new paths that are taken when diving into this new chapter at the University. The series is meant to resemble landscapes based on the idea of individuals’ own horizons or path before them. As viewers encounter these paintings their perceptions will evolve as they have experienced a Bridgewater State University education and grown to an enhanced interpretation. I hope to inspire viewers to challenge the unknown and follow a path to enlightened horizons.
