In Ember, J. Kent Martin builds a richly layered composition of interlocking forms in deep orange, crimson, rust, and earthen neutrals, punctuated by moments of black and soft mineral tones. The surface is heavily worked—scraped, pressed, and built up—creating a tactile, almost architectural field that suggests both structure and erosion. Bands of saturated red move horizontally and vertically through the composition, evoking the residual heat of something once ignited, while muted passages temper the intensity and provide visual balance. The painting carries a quiet tension, as if energy still lingers beneath the surface, contained but not extinguished. Subtle shifts in texture and tone invite close inspection, revealing the artist’s intuitive process of layering and reduction. This original mixed-media abstract painting offers depth, warmth, and a grounded sophistication—an impactful statement piece for refined contemporary interiors.
