Like a Merry-go-round was my first attempt at a painting that can be observed, almost indistinctively as presented or upside-down. The idea with this quality, its double positional reading, invites the viewer to consider the following metaphorical interpretation: many things that we think are only true unilaterally are, in fact, and upon closer evaluation, containers of either multiple, or simply different, ideas.

This painting showcases two undercover mermaids, who are conspicuously interacting with each other: the tail of one finishes where the other's head begins, while this last one is simultaneously touched by the first with their pinkie finger. The composition also includes a variety of sea creatures, suggesting the whole scene takes place underwater.

With this painting, my aim was to invite the viewer explore ideas of life being a continuum of experiences that should be challenged as we go through it, thanks to the passing of time. Going underwater is an allegory that is used to signify this need for time as the main variable to understand experience: the interconnection of apparently isolated, surface events, as perceived the short run, may appear otherwise, to our comprehension, granted the time for the deeper thoughts that can be encountered in the long run.
