Now, If We Are Here by Ella Davidson

About the artist

Ella Davidson

“Thick paint and gestural, energetic mark bring the personal and emotional to a traditionally lone wilderness landscape. My work draws from specific memories and experiences, depicting leisure-filled summer scenes with figures swimming, hiking and canoeing. My paintings are saturated with rich color, drawing attention to the natural world’s light and texture. They get at the importance of spending time together in nature, and the interpersonal connections one can find in the respite of the wilderness. I hope to conjure memory and fondness for escapes to the lake, and stimulate awareness and celebration of simple, beautiful moments in the natural world.“

Davidson is a working artist currently residing in Berkeley, CA. She grew up exploring the wilderness of the Hudson Valley, Vermont and the Adirondacks. She loves canoeing, hiking and walking, and worked as an environmental educator and wilderness trip leader. She holds a degree in art from Skidmore College.
